Practices have moved to Tuesdays from now on for the 2015-16 season. Ice time starts at 8:00 PM, so get there in plenty of time to get your gear on and stretch before practice starts. Practices are still at LA Kings Icetown Riverside (10540 Magnolia in Riverside). Thank you to a very generous donation from the LA Kings that allows us to have an ice time at a priority time.

If you have a question about LA Kings Sled Hockey, check out our FAQ page here.  If the question isn't answered, or you want to contact someone, contact us at LAKingsSledHockey@gmail.com. Don't forget to follow our Facebook page or find us on LAKings.com/sled.

Schedule for the 2015-16 season:

Note: all dates are subject to change.

Yes, we need to raise lots of financial support for these things. You will note that in addition to our regular practices, we have 5 travel tourneys and travel games. Two of those are only about a 5 hour drive away (Phoenix and Sacramento), but the rest are going to have to be airplane trips. If you have a boss who is interested in helping the LA Kings Sled Hockey Team financially, please contact us at LAKingsSledHockey@gmail.com.

Sept 12- Walk for Hydrocephalus.
Approximately six athletes on the LA Kings Sled Hockey team have shunted hydrocephalus. The LA Kings Sled Hockey Team will be walking and rolling at the Walk for Hydrocephalus/LA Kings 5K in Redondo Beach. Join us for the walk, and please donate to help find better treatments and a cure for hydrocephalus. Click here to join the team or donate.

Oct 3- DisAbility Sports Festival at Cal State San Bernardino
Cal State San Bernardino has no ice rink, but they have asked LA Kings Sled Hockey's managers Todd and Christie Jenkins to give the keynote address to athletes and volunteers at their annual event. Come out and try several different adaptive sports, including kayaking, wheelchair basketball, archery, goalball, and many other things. The festival is open to people with all sorts of disabilities, including both mobility disabilities and developmental disabilities.

LA Kings Sled Hockey will have a booth there where you will be able to see a sled first hand, try shooting a hockey puck, and meet some of the athletes. We may even have some sleds with wheel kits for people to try.  Find out more about the event and/or sign up as a participant or volunteer here.

This summer, LA Kings Sled Hockey members participated on a 3 on 3 hockey tournament called Face Off With Cancer. Here is a newspaper article mentioning the involvement of the team. Darlene Bradford, a defensman on LA Kings Sled Hockey received a grant of $1,000 from Face Off With Cancer at the event.

Dec 18-19- Outdoor game vs. The Ducks in Sacramento. ROAD TRIP!
What the...???? Yes, you read that right. It's an outdoor game at a temporary outdoor rink that will be at Raley Field in Sacramento. The AHL will be hosting an outdoor hockey game between the AHL's Stockton Thunder (Calgary's new AHL affiliate) vs. the Bakersfield Condors (Edmonton's new AHL affiliate) on December 18, and we have been asked to play a sled hockey game prior to the AHL game. They are working out the schedule as we speak, and the official AHL schedule will be released on August 31, so there is a possibility it will be slightly different than described. Yes, we will be playing one or two outdoor games on an outdoor rink in a baseball stadium. Sounds like a hoot!

Raley Field in Sacramento, where LA Kings Sled Hockey will play the San Diego Ducks Sled Hockey in an outdoor game.

You may remember the LA Kings playing a game against the Anaheim Ducks at Dodger Stadium in 2014. Having a temporary sheet of ice in a baseball stadium is not unheard of.

Jan 8-10- Western Sled Hockey League Tourney- HERE in Southern CA!!!

This is the second tournament weekend of the Western Sled Hockey League, and we will be hosting the tournament HERE, somewhere in Southern California. Details will come out later. We will need volunteers and all sorts of people behind the scenes working to make this a success.

Feb 12-14 Tourney in Phoenix
This is also part of the Western Sled Hockey League. More details to come.

April 7-10 Disabled Hockey Festival in Detroit, MI.
Yep, Nationals are in Detroit this year. We will have been preparing all season to go out and try to bring home the trophy and banner.

In addition, we will have some demo games and other events that happen throughout the season, so keep your eyes peeled and your ears open.

Abilities Expo / Sleds & Soldiers II: The Rematch

We have a lot of stuff going on in March. First off, L.A. Kings Sled Hockey will be in Booth #818 at the L.A. Abilities Expo this weekend, March 6th to 8th, at the L.A. Convention Center.

Abilities Expo is the nation's largest gathering place for disability resources: wheelchair vendors, vehicle modification, continence supplies, learning materials, workshops, service dogs, handcycles, the Walk & Roll Wheelchair Dance Team, and adaptive sports, of course.

We thank the L.A. Kings and the Abilities Expo staff for including us in this year's event. If you have a disability, have a family member with a disability, or even know someone with a disability, come on by this weekend and check out the amazing variety of goodness on hand. You might even get to meet Bailey and the L.A. Kings Ice Crew!

Abilities Expo is in West Hall A of the L.A. Convention Center, next door to Staples Center at 1201 South Figueroa St., Los Angeles 90015. For more information about the Expo, visit the website at http://www.abilities.com/losangeles/.

The following week, the rematch is on! Sleds Soldiers returns to Palos Verdes Ice Chalet on Saturday, March 14th at 5:30 PM, as the L.A. Kings Sled Hockey team takes on Patriots Hockey.

The Patriots are a group of veterans and active-duty military personnel who play benefit hockey matches to support veterans' causes like Homes For Our Troops. They are an incredible group of hard-working men who are devoted to both their country and their sport of choice. The Kings sledders took the Patriots down 4-1 last year, but they've had time to stew and prepare for Round 2 this year, so it should be quite a show.

We will have two special guests in attendance this year. Adrienne Slaughter, United Way's Speaker of the Year, has had her own rematches with cancer over the years. Adrienne lost her right leg to a rare bone cancer when she was 14 years old. She was given a 1% chance of survival, but numbers are funny things. While it cost her a promising future in tennis, she didn't let the loss of her leg slow her down. Adrienne learned adaptive skiing and hit the road, sharing her story of recovery and renewal. A new roadblock came in 2009 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. But that, too, is in the past. We are proud to have Adrienne join us at this very special event.

Our other special guest puck-dropper is well-known to watchers of Food Network. Chef Duff Goldman, one of America's premier cake designers, is the host of Ace of Cakes, Duff Till Dawn, and Kids Baking Championship. He is the founder of the legendary Charm City Cakes in Baltimore, Maryland, and the recently opened Charm City Cakes West in Los Angeles. Besides being brilliant in the kitchen, Goldman is a lifelong hockey fan. He even took to the ice with some of the U.S. national sled hockey players back in 2010. It didn't go as well as he planned, so Duff will be content to cheer on the sidelines at Sleds & Soldiers.

Admission to Sleds & Soldiers is free, with a $5.00 suggested donation per person. All proceeds will be split between the two teams to support veterans' causes and adaptive sports opportunities. During the game we will auction various items, including a 2014 Stanley Cup Championship hockey stick signed by Kings forward Tyler Toffoli.

Ruby's Diner, right next door to the ice rink, will be doing an all-day fundraiser for both teams as well. If you stop in for lunch or dinner, sign in on the Sleds & Soldiers log sheet when you're done eating. A portion of the proceeds of your meal will be donated to Inland Valley Hockey Association.

Palos Verdes Ice Chalet is located inside the Promenade on the Peninsula shopping center at 550 Deep Valley Drive in Rolling Hills Estates. The rink's phone number is (310) 541-6630.

For more information about Sleds & Soldiers or L.A. Kings Sled Hockey, contact Todd and Christie Jenkins at (909) 863-1000 or LAKingsSledHockey@gmail.com. For more information about Patriots Hockey, contact Marv Floer at patriots.hockeyteam@gmail.com.

Kings vs. Korea, January 24th

On Saturday, January 24th, 2015, the L.A. Kings Sled Hockey team will host California's first-ever international sled hockey game, as we take on athletes from South Korea's national development program. The Koreans are training with us at Icetown Riverside throughout the month of January, and we are happy to be able to host a full, sanctioned competition with them. We thank coordinator Young Bae Park, coaches Kyungpil Hawng and Jungho Kim, and their athletes for working with us all month long.

The game will be held at 11:15 AM at Toyota Sports Center, 555 North Nash Street in El Segundo, just a few blocks south of LAX and the 105 Freeway. Toyota Sports Center is the L.A. Kings' official practice facility, and the game will be held on the middle NHL rink immediately after the "big boys" finish their session.

Admission to the game is free; donations will be taken at the door to help support adaptive hockey. For more information, call (909) 486-5558 or email us at LAKingsSledHockey@gmail.com.
